The new wheelchair-accessible cabs that are expected to soon be on the roads in the Hartford and New Haven areas will dramatically increase the on-demand transportation options for people who use wheelchairs.
The state Department of Transportation has denied the requests of two taxi companies for permits to add 70 wheelchair-accessible cabs to each of their fleets, ruling that the companies had not demonstrated the need for new permits and could instead replace existing vehicles with accessible ones.
In a recent decision, the Connecticut DOT denied the permits that are necessary for Metro Taxi of West Haven and The Yellow Cab Co. of Bloomfield to expand our service and licensed territory.
